A series of run-down former agricultural buildings are to be ambitiously converted and altered. The buildings are situated on an expanse of open agricultural and coastal land with views to the Firth of Forth estuary and Craigleith island.
The initial phase of the scheme sees the milking parlour converted to an adaptable flexible space with a commercial kitchen. The space will be used for kitchen demonstrations, art workshops, and exhibitions. The stables are to be converted to artist studios. A greenhouse is proposed as a sheltered entrance, linking outdoor and indoor functions while supporting sustainable food production.
The existing structural fabric is to be significantly retained. Large timber trusses will replace the corroded steel trusses. New openings are oriented towards the views to the estuary. The walls are to be externally insulated with wood fibre insulation with a lime render finish—maximising the gross internal area.
Fragments of the existing walls and the converted buildings will enclose a wild herb garden. The green area to the north-west will be used as a kitchen garden to grow fresh produce and for outdoor art workshops and activities.
Construction is planned for 2026
